Reducing your electricity usage is actually very simple. All you have to do is turn stuff off!

Start by taking a very close look at your electricity usage from the past year.
Consider borrowing a kill-a-watt meter from your local public library to see which appliances are using the most electricity in your home.

You will be amazed! Even that black box on the TV uses a significant amount of electricity every day.

Then consider what you can turn off while away during the day. Again–there are lots of options! Do you really need the internet router to be connected all day? What about the TV? Your alarm? Your home computer? Chances are you are away at work or asleep many hours a day. Find ways to easily turn things off during those hours–you will see a remarkable drop in your electricity usage and your bill!

Most people in the US complain that their refrigerators are far too large. You don’t see what’s in it, and so you don’t see what’s going bad. Indeed, in this country we throw away 40-50% of our food, often without even opening it. Consider downsizing your refrigerator. A nice side-effect will be that you’ll throw away less food, which in turn saves you money.
